Paul Knauls
Born in Huntington, Arkansas.

Raised in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

Graduated High School in 1949

1949 Enlisted U.S. Air Force. Served 3 1/2 years during the Korean War (Office Machine Repairman Specialist). Honorably discharged 1953

1953 Joined the Royal Typewriter Co. as Office Machine Repair Specialist during the days. At night, worked at the world renowned Davenport Hotel as a wine steward in the Matador Dining Room. He worked both jobs for 10 years and saved enough money to move to Portland.

1963 Moved to Portland to purchase the Cotton Club. In a very short time, the Cotton Club became national known, being the place to be and be seen. On any given night you could walk in and hear some of the finest entertainment you would find anywhere in the U.S.A. Our local talent along with the talent we booked became nationally recognized artists. To name a few, Blues Singer Big Mamma Thirteen, The Whispers, Sundays Child with Ren Wood, Mel Brown and many others. Sammy Davis Jr., Joe Louis, Archie Moore, and many other visited often.

1965 Married Geneva Frazier Carter. They purchased a second liquor bar in 1965 and a third lounge and restaurant in 1968. Geneva's Restaurant and Lounge was nationally known for the finest soul food west of the Mississippi. Geneva's was "where friends meet" and party. After 19 years, the business was sold in 1982.

1965 A charter member of the Albina Lions Club. Designed and built a float for the Merrakana Parade (now called the Starlight Parade).

For over thirty years, have been a health activist and have participated in Walk-A-Thons and have raised funds for U.N.C.F. marathon aerobic session doing 505 setups. A skier and instructor for forty years. Mr. Knauls makes donations to all types of fund raisers including: Little League Baseball, Foot Ball, Miss Junior Black Oregon, Church Convention Programs, and has sponsored the National Championship Basket Ball Team.

Participated in King Elementary School's H.O.S.T.S. program and the Junior Achievement Program at Jefferson High School and Humbolt Grade School.

1991 Opened Geneva's Shear Perfection Barber & Beauty Salon that has been nationally recognized in print and in national television. Winner Best of Portland Award, the King Award, and Business of Excellence Award.

1994 Leasing Panel for the Walnut Park Police Precinct

1996 M.L.K. Blvd. Action Committee to remove median strip and restore parking on M.L.K. making it more pedestrian friendly.

1997 Elected to the Board of the Martin Luther King Jr. Statue Foundation to erect Oregon's monument of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
